On New Year's eve fight fans in Japan had a real treat with 5 world title bouts. The first of those saw Japanese youngster Kosei Tanaka (6-0, 3) retain the WBO Minimumweight title with an intensely difficult bout against Vic Saludar (11-2, 9). That bout, which was shown in Nagoya on CBC and in Kanto on TBS did very impressive rating considering the time slot and the build up that the bout had had.
In Nagoya the broadcast got a very impressive 8.2% share of the audience, a massive figure in relative terms, whilst in Kanto the bout gained a 4.8% share, more than Takashi Uchiyama's bout against Oliver Flores did later in the day on rival TV channel TV Tokyo.
Whilst the figures don't come close to matching that of Kazuto Ioka or Naoya Inoue they are still incredibly impressive suggest that the youngster does have star potential.
Sadly for Tanaka the bout wasn't shown in Kansai, a major area for fight fans, hopefully however his next bout will be.
