We've heard from one of our sources that the WBA Featherweight super title fight between Chris John conqueror Simpiwe Vetyeka (26-2, 16) and Japan's Akifumi Shimoda (28-3-2, 12) is unlikely to now take place.
The fight, originally scheduled for the February 22nd Macao card dubbed "Ring of Gold", seems to have fallen apart due to the WBA who have refused to sanction the bout as a title fight. The organisation will instead be pushing for Vetyeka to face regular champion Nicholas Walters (23-0, 19), although that's unlikely to be in Macao.~
Despite the bout falling through there is still hope that Shimoda could be featured on the show, albeit in a smaller fight. There has been no story as to who he could be matched up with instead of Vetyeka though we'd be expecting an international name if he still competes on the card.
This now leaves the card with just a sole world title bout, that of IBF Lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez (33-3, 13) and Denis Shafikov (33-0-1, 18). Thankfully though with plenty of Asian fighters on the card it'd be a shock if it wasn't a well attended show.
