March 12th 2024-Korakuen Hall, Tokyo Shunpei Kaneshiro (1-0, 1) vs Ji Yong Kim (3-0-1, 1) Last week fight fans at Korakuen Hall saw former local amateur stand out Shunpei Kaneshiro [金城隼平] take on unbeaten Korean visitor Ji Yong Kim [김지용]. On paper this was a really interesting bout, especially for Kanehsiro's second professional bout. The Japanese southpaw had made his debut in July 2022 and had taken a 6th round stoppage. As for Kim, he had debuted several years ago and was fighting outside of Korea for the first time, and certainly managed to make some new fans in Japan with his performance here.

March 1st 2024-Fashion Center Event Hall, Seoul Joon Huh (1-0, 1) vs Ji Won Hwang (0-0) Earlier this month Korean fight fans got something of a treat in Seoul as Joon Huh and Ji Won Hwang gave us a hard hitting 4 rounder. Huh, who had debuted in 2022, was fighting in his second bout and ending a long break from the ring whilst Hwang was making his debut. Despite the lack of experience for the two men they managed to give a very entertaining show for the fans, who got an unexpected and some what wild treat. January 13th 2024-PARADISE CITY, Incheon Van Thao Tran (16-1, 10) vs Gui Ming Li (6-4, 1) Back in January Van Thao Tran, the most notable name in Vietnamese boxing, travelled to South Korea, where he fought limited Chinese fighter Gui Ming Li, on a card promoted by Cocky Buffalo. The bout was Tran's 5th since suffering his sole loss, to former world champion Billy Dib back in 2019. As for Li, this was his second bout outside of China, following a 6 round decision loss last August to Kakeru Mashimo in Japan. January 13th 2023-PARADISE CITY, Incheon Bayarkhuu Ganbaatar (8-2, 7) vs Yesihati Yeerken (6-5-2-1, 2) Back in January Korean based Mongolian puncher Bayarkhuu Ganbaatar faced off with Chinese fighter Yesihati Yeerken, in a bout held in Incheon by Cocky Buffalo. Coming in to this Ganbaatar had gone 4-0 (4) in South Korea and had looked like a really destructive boxer-puncher. Yeerken on the other hand had been stopped in 2 of his 5 losses, though both of those losses had come in 2019 with one coming all the way up at Light Middleweight, whilst this bout was being fought at 140lbs. Despite neither of these men being big names, they did make for a great clash of styles and a very entertaining bout. January 13th 2024-PARADISE CITY, Incheon Abdurasul Ismoilov (10-2, 6) vs WeiWei Liu (4-2, 2) Back in January Incheon played host to a Cocky Buffalo card. One of the bouts on that card so Uzbekistani fighter Abdurasul Ismoilov clash with Chinese fighter WeiWei Liu in an 8 round bout at 140lbs. For Ismoilov the bout followed a TKO loss to Koki Inoue, the cousin of Naoya Inoue, in August 2023, whilst Liu was looking to bounce back from successive decison losses. January 13th 2024-PARADISE CITY, Incheon Yoji Saito (5-3-2, 5) Vs Hong Quan Dinh (10-1-1, 4) Back in January hard hitting Japanese fighter Yoji Saito [齊藤陽ニ] made his international debut, as he travelled to South Korea to take on Vietnam's Hong Quan Dinh, on a show promoted by Dihn's promoter, Cocky Buffalo". On paper the match was a step for Dihn, as he took on a huge puncher, and although Saito's record is less than stellar he has proven himself as something of a crude bulldozer on the Japanese scene and he had stopped his last two foes. Dihn on the other hand had won his last 8 bouts, and turned around his career following a 2-1-1 start as a professional. March 16th 2024-The Grand Ho Tram Strip, Vung Tau DianXing Zhu (12-1, 10) vs Marco John Rementizo (15-4, 12) This past weekend we saw WBO Global Minimumweight champion DianXing Zhu fight in his second defense, as he took on Filipino challenger Marco John Rementizo in Vietnam on a Cocky Buffalo show. The Chinese champion came into this in great form, and was quickly becoming regarded as China's next big hopeful with an exciting all action style and spiteful power. Rementizo on the other hand was looking to claim his second international title, having won the WBA Asian Light Flyweight title last June in Thailand. March 16th 2024-The Grand Ho Tram Strip, Vung Tau Genesis Servania (24-4, 16) vs Xiao Tao Su (13-4, 7) This past weekend Filipino former world title challenger Genesis Servania faced off with tough Chinese fighter Xiao Tao Su [苏晓涛], with the men clashing in an 8 round bout in Vietnam on a Cocky Buffalo show. The bout was Servania's first since suffering back to back KO losses to Andres Cortes and Ryosuke Iwasa. March 16th 2024-The Grand Ho Tram Strip, Vung Tau Hong Quan Dinh (10-2-1, 4) vs Katsunori Endo (7-5-1, 4) This past weekend we had a really fun 8 round tear up in Vietnam as local fighter Hong Quan Dinh faced off with Japan's Katsunori Endo [遠藤勝則], in a bout that was entertaining, bloody, and saw both men show what they could do. For Dinh this was second successive bout against a Japanese fighter, having been stopped by Yoji Saito in January, whilst Endo was fighting outside of Japan for the first time, in fact this was only his second bout outside of Korakuen Hall, and he was looking to end a 3 fight win-less streak. January 13th 2024-PARADISE CITY, Incheon Izuki Tomioka (8-6-1, 3) Vs Mikhail Lesnikov (7-4-1, 2) In January the talented, but light punching Izuki Tomioka [富岡樹], from Japan, made his international debut, as he travelled to South Korea and faced with Russian fighter Mikhail Lesnikov, in a show promoted by Cocky Buffalo. Although no world beater Tomioka is far better than his record suggests, and 3 of his losses have come in regional or national title bouts, with other losses being razor thin ones to the likes of Shuya Masaki, Hiroki Okada and Homura Fujita, who later went on to win a Japanese title. As for Lesnikov, he was looking to secure a 4th straight win and extend s 6 fight unbeaten run. |
