TOLEDO CITY,CEBU,PHILIPPINES -  Jess Rhey Waminal (17-12-1, 9KO’s) battled his way to a split decision victory over local favorite Jusue “Pistolero” Bastillada (10-2, 6 KO’s) and captured the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver featherweight title at the Barba Sports Complex in Toledo City.

Both boxers missed more than they landed, especially in the early rounds. It seemed Bastillada had Waminal hurt near the end of the third but could not finish him off. It turned into a give and take affair, but Waminal did enough to convince two of the three judges.

The scores – Judges Rolando Mendoza and Michael Espinosa both had it 77-75 for Waminal, while Edgar Olalo scored 77-75 for Bastillada.

It was a disappointing outing for Bastillada, an active duty police officer in Toledo City, who was expecting to win his first regional belt in front of his home fans. Waminal, for his part, stopped his four bout losing streak.

In a battle of prospects, Arlando Senoc (6-0,5KO’s) needed only forty one seconds and a punch to the solar plexus to stop Eugene Noynay (6-2,1KO) in the opening round.

Carlo Bacaro (13-1,8KO’s) dropped Chinese boxer, Wanxuan Lin (3-2,1KO) in the first round and cruised to a unanimous decision victory. Judges Edwin Barientos and Melchor Arong had it 59-54 while Edward Ligas scored 58-55.

Rhonvex Capuloy (13-3-3,10KO’s) stopped Michael Adolfo (6-5,3KO’s) in the third round.

For the rest of the undercard – Mark Anthony Sarino knocked out Enecito Jagopar in the second round, Ulymark Moras won by KO using a body shot in the fifth against Jahmark Gales, Nino Jay Malbago beat Norman Rusiana by unanimous verdict, Jofel Barcoma won by TKO in the third against Mark Asibal and John Dominic Ledres beat Nathaniel Doria by TKO also in the third round.

The card was presented by Big Yellow Promotions and the local government of Toledo City.

CEBU, PHILIPPINES – Local draw Jusue “Pistolero” Bastillada (10-1, 6 KO’s) will be gunning for his first regional belt when he clashes with journeyman Jess Rhey Waminal (16-12-1, 9KO’s) for the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) Silver featherweight title.

Bastillada, a full-time police officer in Toledo City aside from being a legitimate professional boxer, won by TKO last April against Jason Tinampay. Waminal is an eleven year pro but has lost his last four fights. Three of these bouts however, were held overseas in Thailand and Japan.

Both boxers easily made the featherweight limit, identical at 125 lbs, during the official weigh-in held at the Conequip building in Mandaue City. The fight is set for eight rounds and will be held Wednesday July 23 in Toledo City, Cebu at the Barba Sports Complex.

There are eight undercard matches, one of which will feature a Chinese boxer, Wanxuan Lin (3-1,1KO) against Carlo Bacaro (12-1,8KO’s) in a welterweight six rounder.

Arlando Senoc (5-0,4KO’s) will try to remain unbeaten against fellow prospect Eugene Noynay (6-1,1KO) in a six rounder. They will clash for the vacant VISPROBA belt.

For the rest of the card – Rhonvex Capuloy vs Michael Adolfo (10 rounds), Mark Anthony Sarino vs Enecito Jagopar – 6 rounds, Ulymark Moras vs Jahmark Gales – 6 rounds, Nino Jay Malbago vs Norman Rusiana – 4 rounds, Jofel Barcoma vs Mark Asibal – 4 rounds and John Dominic Ledres vs Nathaniel Doria – 4 rounds.
