Last year we reported that former Japanese Featherweight champion boxer Yuji Gomez (21-5, 20), AKA Eugenio Gomez, had been arrested for extortion. In the months that followed we were unfortunately unable to follow the story and we were curios as to what had happened to the heavy handed former fighter.
Thankfully today we got an update that informed us that Gomez was found innocent of the extortion charges.
Since then Gomez has been in several adult movies, two of which have been released this year, and also went on to apply for a trainers licenses from the JBC. That license was granted and he has now joined the Puma Taguchi gym where he will act as a trainer for the fighters there.
Although known for his exploits outside of the ring, including his pornographic work, Gomez is still remembered by some for being a terrifying fighter inside the ring. His 26 career bouts saw him fighting with power and aggression and his record of 7 successive opening round stoppages is still a Japanese record. In total he recorded 13 opening round victories and 5 of his 26 bouts went beyond the 4th round.
Born in American it was in Japan that Gomez made his name and it appears that he is now looking to pass on those traits that made him such a devastating fighter back in the 00's.
