Earlier today fight fans in Thailand saw Kongfah CP Freshmart (25-1, 13) [ก้องฟ้า ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] out point game Filipino fighter Salatiel Amit (11-6-2, 8) over 10 rounds.
Kongfah looked excellent to start the bout, and seemed to be heading towards a stoppage after 3 rounds, but began to slow down markedly in round 4. That seemed to be a combination of his high output in the early rounds as well as the shots that Amit was landing, which weren't numerous but were mostly clean, hard shots. With Kongfah slowing down Amit began to get a foothold in the bout, winning round 4.
The bout was an easy one to read to that point, and all 3 judges had it 39-37 when the scores were made public at the end of round 4. Although Kongfah was up he was looking tired and dug deep to just about claim round 5, which was a close round that had Amit start well but get clobbered around later in the round. The Filipino would pick up the pace again in round 6, as he took another round, and began to really make things uncomfortable for the Thai, who had struggled at the weigh in yesterday.
Amit would continue to out work Kongfah, who had moments, in rounds 7 and 8 as the bout seemed to get really close. The judges didn't see it as close as us, though one judge had it 77-75 to Kongfah after 8 rounds, whilst the other judges had it 78-74. The 78-74 cards seemed very harsh against Amit and things got worse for him when he had a very unfortunate knockdown ruled against him, that didn't see to come from a punch. That essentially sealed Amit's fate.
The 10th round seemed to be taken by the hungry Amit, but he needed a knock out to win, and just winning the round was never going to be enough. Instead the round made the bout look a little more respectable on the scorecards, which were all 97-92 in favour of Kongfah.
Given that Kongfah failed to make weight yesterday, he was stripped of the OPBF "silver" Super Flyweight title. That title remains vacant.
Tomorrow fight fans will be able to see OPBF "silver" Super Flyweight champion Kongfah CP Freshmart (24-1, 13) [ก้องฟ้า ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] face off with Filipino Salatiel Amit (11-5-2, 8).
Today those two men took part in their weigh in.
On the scales Amit was 114.5lbs, on his first attempt. Coming in comfortably under the 115lb limit, allowing him to win the for the OPBF "Silver" Super Flyweight title.
Things weren't as straight forward for Kongfah, who weighed in at 116lbs, and was be stripped of the OPBF "Silver" Super Flyweight title.
Interestingly Kongfah has spoken about his ability to fight at either Flyweight or Super Flyweight in the future, but given today's issues on the scales we do wonder how easily he can actually make the 115lb Super Flyweight limit.
For fans wanting to watch this, it will be shown on Channel 7 in Thailand from 13:45 local time, with a 2 hour broadcast time set for the show.
