Last year was an outstanding year for Japanese based Filipino prospect Johnreil Maligro (12-0, 9) who scored a trio of wins in 2014, including a notable decision victory over the then 10-0 Tatsuya Yanagi and an 88 second blow out against Kazuma Sanpei, then 11-0. It now seems that the talented 20 year old is ready to begin his campaign for 2015 and is expected to return to the ring in April, with a bout being penciled in for April 2nd.
At the moment we've not got the name or venue of Maligro's next bout though it's believed to be either a return to a Japanese ring or a possible US debut.
The talented youngster, a member of the Yokohama Sakura gym, is known as Sakura Jun in Japan and is ranked #11 by the JBC at Super Featherweight and #7 in the Philippines at Lightweight. So far he has fought 4 times in Japan, where he is 4-0 (3) and 8 times in his native Philippines, where he is 8-0 (5).
Heavy handed and a southpaw Maligro brings excitement every time he steps into the ring. He has stopped 5 of his last 6 opponents, with only one of those foes lasting more than 3 rounds, and appears to be blossoming into one of the most exciting young prospects in Asia.
