Former Uzbek amateur stand out Shukurjon Rakhimov (0-0) [Шукуржон Раҳимов] has decided to leave the amateur ranks and begin his professional career, signing with Patriot Boxing in Russia, as per Jalol Akhmedov's tweet yesterday.
The Asian Championship bronze medal winner will be debuting on February 1st in Kalingrad, on a notable card packed with Uzbek hopefuls.
Originally Rakhimov's opponent wasn't announced but we have now been informed that he will be facing off with South African fighter Ripfumelo Chikwambana (6-3, 4) in a bout scheduled for 6 rounds.
The limited Chikwambana has lost his last 3 in a row, but has never been stopped and should prove to be a durable test for Rakhimov to ease himself into the pro ranks against.
Regarded highly following his success in Thailand last year it'll be interesting to see what he can do in the professional ranks and how quickly his new promoter is willing to push him. He has the skills and credentials to be moved quickly, though it's always hard to know how well a notable amateur will look when they begin their professional journey.
