Reymart Gaballo (now 24-0) is world champion once again after beating former world champion Emmanuel Rordriguez (19-2) bagging the WBC Interim World Bantamweight Title. It was a close fight but the Filipino’s work rate and aggression sealed him the decision win.
Both warriors fought at a moderate pace from the opening bells but it Gaballo who risked throwing more bombs at the more experienced Puerto Rican. Rodriguez appeared accurate but was clearly avoiding getting hurt by Gaballo’s power especially after his nose was broken from a clean punch. He was more elusive and safe rather than giving everything to win.
The whole story of the fight was Gaballo’s greater activity and aggression versus Rodriguez’s cleaner punching. In championship bouts, aggressive and busier fighters appear hungrier to wrestle the prize. Most of the judges appreciated effort and busier work-rate of Gaballo over the play-safe strategy and cleaner punches of Rodriguez.
With this meaningful victory, Gaballo’s dream of becoming a full fledged world champion is within reach as he contends for the regular WBC belt held by Nordine Oubaali.
It was another Knockout Bonanza of an event as SanMan main protagonists ended their fights via sensational stoppages. In the main event, WBO world ranked super flyweight KJ Cataraja (12-0) stayed unbeaten as he stopped John Mark Apolinario in the opening round.
In the co-featured bout, former world title contender Jeo Santisima floored Marjun Piencenaves twice in the second round before finally ending the fight in the same round.
In another featured bout, WBC number one ranked Melvin Jerusalem dominated Jason Francisco from the opening bell before stopping him in the second round courtesy of a vicious body shot.
In the undercard, Esneth Domingo improved his record to (14-1) as he stopped Gerald Alvarez also in the second round. Meanwhile Regie Manangquil ran short of scoring a KO win but managed to escape a Unanimous Decision victory in the sixth round against Rio Golipatan.
The event was held at the SanMan Gym in General Santos City and was broadcasted live via FaceBook. Social Media sensation and sports analyst Pao Salud served as commentator for the event. SanMan CEO Jim Claude Manangquil shared his joy and gratitude for the successful bubble event. “Thank you all for your support. My special thanks to the ZIP, Nobuyuki Matsuura and Mhavic for partnering with us”, Manangquil said in closing.
