Last week our good friend Ian Melodillar (@iaknows) broke the news that we'd be getting an interesting Flyweight bout between Pakistani fighter Muhammad Waseem (10-1, 7) and Filipino slugger Jeny Boy Boca (14-6, 12) in December on an AK Promotions show. Today that bout was officially confirmed with a poster for the full event also released, showing that the card is fairly international show with fighters not just from Pakistan and the Philippines but also the UK, Italy and Iran.
The main event, between Waseem and Boca, will be a world title eliminator and will be a really interesting mix of styles. On one hand you have the skills, smoothness and technical ability of Waseem, a former amateur standout and a proven quantity, who gave Moruti Mthalane one of his toughest career bouts. On the other hand you have a hard hitting Filipino, in Boca, who who upset Sarawut Thawornkham back in March, in one of the most notable Asian upsets of 2020. The winner of this is expected to move towards a WBC Flyweight title fight and pick up a regional WBC belt.
Talking about regional WBC title bouts the show will have a WBC Middle East title bout pitting unbeaten Pakistani fighters against each other, with Nadir Baloch (9-0, 7) taking on Jawad Hassan (6-0, 2), in what we believe will be a Super Featherweight bout.
The show looks to be an interesting one, and certainly appears to be a much more meaningful one than the last AK Promotions show, which was headlined by a bout between Usman Wazeer and Boido Simanjuntak. Despite that card being an under-whelming one the crowd at it were wild, and fingers crossed the fan interest continues here with Waseem fighting in Pakistan for the first time.
The show is set to take place in Lahore on December 19th and given the people that AK Promotions are working with, we really hope there will be international streams made available for the event.
