Today we were informed that the founder, an former president, of the Amagasaki boxing gym Shoichi Kojima has passed at the age of 71, becoming the third former gym owner to pass in the space of just a few weeks, following Mr Katsumata and Mr Misako.
Mr Kojima died on August 13th following a battle with Pancreatic cancer.
The gym that Mr Kojima founded is certainly not a big one, but during it's history it has played an important role in the Japanese scene with 3 domestic champions, an OPBF champion, 3 world ranked fighters and 3 All Japan Rookie of the Year winners since it was founded in 1979.
In the later years of his life Mr Kojima handed over the reigns of the gym, though remained an integral part of it, becoming an advisor.
Mr Kojima's funeral will take place on August 17th with a special farewell ceremony taking place the following day as well.
