Earlier today saw the Japanese boxing award winners for April being announced, and oddly there was only two awards with worthy fighters.
The more significant of those awards was the MVP, which was won by the newly crowned Japanese Light Middleweight champion Takeshi Inoue (10-0-1, 5) [井上 岳志]. The unbeaten youngster scored a career best win on on April 25th when he stopped Koshinmaru Saito to claim the vacant title, and continue to build his reputation which had also took a huge boost in January when he beat Akinori Watanabe in a notable non-title bout.
The other award was the New Comer award, which was won by the big punching Kazuto Nakane (7-2, 7), whoch scored a 5th straight win on April 11th when he stopped Yugo Ueda in the 6th round of a scheduled 8 rounder.
There was no Fighting Spirit Award winner for the month, with those able to vote not feeling any fighter was suitable for the award. Inoue and Nakane will collect their awards on May 31st at the Korakuen Hall.
