In Philadelphia on Thursday night fight fans had the chance to see Kazakh prospect Shyngyskhan Tazhibay (7-0, 2) [Шыңғысхан Тәжібай] advance his record as he defeated experienced American Justin Johnson (6-18-6).
Originally the Kazakh had been scheduled to face off against American based Cuban Yasmani Pedroso (2-4, 1) with Johnson replacing Pedrosa. Despite the change in opponent Tezhibay continued his run.
The Kazakh scene has a number of promising fighters, many of whom are being fast tracked. Sadly Tazhibay doesn't appear to be fast tracked like many others.
The win over Johnson came via a 4 round unanimous decision win, and the fact he is fighting this level of competition over 4 rounds, move than 3 years after his debut is a real concern. At 26 years of age time is on his side but he shouldn't continue to waste it with this level of competition, or this level of inactivity, with this being only his third bout in more than 24 months.
