Back on September 29th we reported a rumour from the Philippines regarding the first defense of the WBO Super Flyweight title by Japanese sensation Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7) would take place on December 29th against Filipino slugger Warlito Parrenas (24-6-1, 21). We can now confirm that that bout will indeed go ahead as rumoured.
Another rumour that we reported was that the very popular and exciting Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12) would be challenging the heavy handed IBF Light Flyweight champion Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19) in what amounted to the co-feature on the very same show. We can, again, confirm that rumour.
Both of those were confirmed earlier today when Ohashi Gym held a press conference to announce their December 29th show for this year, a show that will essentially be their 2015 version of last year's brilliant "FES" card, which featured Inoue's break out win against Omar Andres Narvaez and Yaegashi's loss to Pdro Guevara.
Another bout that was also announce for the show was one that hadn't been rumoured but was expected. That will see Naoya's younger brother Takuma Inoue (5-0, 1) defending his OPBF Super Flyweight title against Filipino fighter Rene Dacquel (15-5-1, 5), who will not be risking his IBO title.
At the moment they are the only bouts officially announced for the card but there is a strong hint that Ryo Matsumoto (15-0, 13) will be added to the card after his bout this coming Thursday, though at the moment it seems unlikely that he will be in with a notable opponent considering the level of activity he's had in recent months.
