A Japanese source has informed us that popular Minimumweight Katsunari Takayama (28-7-0-2, 11) has vacated his WBO Minimumweight title earlier today. The source, who has been reliable with details in the past regarding the situation, has not only stated that Takayama has vacated his WBO bout but has also inked a deal to defend his IBF belt on April 22nd.
The source has informed us that Takayama's IBF title defence will come on the under-card of the brilliant looking WBA Flyweight title bout between Kazuto Ioka (16-1, 10) and defending champion Juan Carlos Reveco (35-1, 19) and will, as previously reported, see him battling against Thailand's Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (21-3-1, 15), a man best known for stopping Ioka's best friend Ryo Miyazaki.
Originally this bout was penciled in for April 27th though we understand this bout has been moved forward by 5 days so as to allow TBS to air two world title bouts. It was first thought that Ioka gym get a world title bout either for Ryo Miyazaki or for Sho Ishida though negotiations for both of those appear to have failed. Takayama, who has featured on a number of Ioka, appears tho have been plan B.
At the moment we are awaiting confirmation though suspect it will come shortly with an announcement from Takayama's side in the coming days.
With Takayama vacating the WBO belt we move a step close to the much rumoured bout between Kosei Tanaka (4-0, 2) and Julian Yedras (24-1, 13) for the WBO belt. That is unlikely to be announced too soon, though s expected to be sorted for May.
