Earlier today at the Sumiyoshi Ward Center fight fans saw Japanese based Korean Ta Il Kim, who fights as Teiru Atsumi (11-1, 5) [テイル渥美], score his third win in the country and continue his rich vein of form since relocating last year.
The talented and promising 23 year old, who upset the very highly touted Sho Nakazawa back in March, was up against experienced Filipino Dennis Tubieron (19-8-2, 8), who is of course well known in the UK for taking Josh Warrington 12 rounds and for being blasted out in a round by Mitchell Smith.
On paper the bout looked like a test for Atsumi, despite the fact that Tubuieron had lost his last 4 including the bouts with Warrington and Smith along with a 7th round defeat to Ryosuke Iwasa. Instead however the bout proved to be a huge mismatch with Atsumi taking control early before sinking the Filipino in round 2 with a body shot, which left Tubieron down for the count.
Now 0-5-1 in his last 6 Tubieron's future is looking bleak however the win for Atsumi may well have proven that he's capable of fighting for either an OPBF or a JBC title in the every near future, and seems to further strengthen his claim as being one of the top Korean prospects, along with Ye Joon Kim. He is however some distance behind Min Wook Kim who continued to impress last night with an opening round victory in the US.
