Earlier today saw an under-the-radar announcement being made in Japan by promotional outfit Suruga boys who announced "Desafio5", which is set to take place on April 10th in Fuji and feature 10 bouts in total, including a very, very tasty main event that had us genuinely excited.
The card's announcement appears to have stated that the card was hopefully being held at the FujisanMesse, however the show may need to go else where due to issues with the venue possibly being booked for another event on the same day. It will however be held in Fuji somewhere, like the last year's show "Desafio 4".
Of the bouts on the card 9 will feature Suruga Boys fighters however the one exception to that is really a stand out bout, and is unsurprisingly the main event of the card.
That stand out bout will be an 8 round bout at a contracted 49KG and will see former world title challenger Ryuji Hara (19-2, 11) [原隆二] face off against Takashi Omae (13-5-5, 1) [大前貴史]. The bout will be Hara's first since he was stopped in an IBF title fight last year by Katsunari Takayama whilst Omae will be hoping to bounce back from a stoppage loss to Ken Shiro.
As well as the announcement of the card the promoter also stated that the show would feature special prizes for stoppages, which they did in last year's show as well. The fighters will be rewarded a set bonus for scoring KO's quicker, with the payment scaled based on how significant the bout is. For example the main event, an 8 rounder, can see the winner picking up ¥30,000 for an opening round win whilst a decision will earn the winner a ¥30,000 bonus. For the 6 rounders an opening round win will earn the winner ¥60,000, whilst a 4 rounder has a potential bonus of ¥40,000.
The bonus payment worked relatively well last year with several early stoppages, including Hara himself scoring a 2nd round KO win with a spiteful body shot, in a bout that can be seen below.
