Fast rising Filipino prospect Mark Magsayo (10-0, 8) continued the perfect start to his career earlier today as he defeated Thailand's Sukkasem Kietyongyuth (13-4, 8) in the 5th round of their Featherweight clash earlier today in Davao City.
Magsayo, who goes by the moniker "Magnifico", looked magnificent from the opening round though it was the finish, a hard right hand, that left a lasting impression on the fans who again got the chance to see one of the Philippines most promising young fighters.
The 19 year old Magsayo, who has only been a professional for 21 months, detonated on his Thai foe and forced the stoppage several rounds earlier than the world ranked Ik Yang, who needed 8 rounds to stop the Thai late last year, and in some ways backed up the claims of the ALA gym who have ear marked Magsayo as a potential star of the promotional outfit.
It's fair to say fans in the west may not be too aware of Magsayo though we've been highly impressed by the youngster and expect to see him moving into 10 round bouts, even title bouts, by the end of the year. With his natural ability, speed and power there really is a very bright future ahead of this young man.
For Sukkasem, a former PABA champion, this is his second successive stoppage loss, following the loss to Yang, though it's also the quickest that he has been stopped in his career. It's also his second loss to a Filipino having previous been stopped by Larry Canillas was back in 2011, in a PABA title fight.
