Earlier today saw WBO Minimumweight world champion Kosei Tanaka (5-0, 2) officially confirm that his first world title defense would come on December 31st against Filipino Vic Saludar (11-1, 9), confirming a story that we reported in late October.
The bout confirmed at a press conference earlier today in which Tanaka was joined by promoter Kiyoshi Hatanaka
Whilst the bout's confirmation wasn't a shock there was some information that was much more welcome.
Firstly we saw Tanaka himself reveal the poster for the fight with a blog entry. The poster, as you can see, is a very dark one and shows Tanaka and an imposing champion on a plan black background. Although it's a smart poster to try and sell the particular show we're actually suspecting there will be a second poster released closer to the fight, featuring Saludar.
Secondly it's been reported that TBS will air the fight. We're unsure if TBS are going to be airing it live, which CBC will be doing, though it has been confirmed that TBS will certainly show the fight along with the Kazuto Ioka Vs Juan Carlos Reveco bout.
At the moment it's been rumoured, from Thailand, that Katsunari Takayama may be on the card against former foe Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr, though Japanese sources have rumoured that Takayama will be facing Mexican foe Jose Argumedo in Osaka, on the Ioka card. One thing is for sure though, Takayama will also be in action at the end of the year in what looks to be a hectic month for Japanese fight fans.
