Japanese youngsters are known for being fast tracked with the notable examples being fighters like Naoya Inoue and Kosei Tanaka. Another of those prospects who appears to be getting moved very quickly is 22 year old Bantamweight hopeful Kazuki Tanaka (4-0, 3) who scored his most notable victory so far earlier today.
The promising Tanaka was stepped up big time in class today as he took on experienced OPBF ranked fighter Monico Laurente (27-13, 6), of the Philippines, and for the first time in his career Tanaka was taken the distance.
Coming into the bout Tanaka had taken out his first 3 opponents in just 6 combined against Laurente however he forced to go 8 hard rounds against a man with much more experience.
The former amateur stand out started well and ran out to an early lead but was forced to dig deep late in the bout as Laurente's toughness and experience allowed him to come back into the fight slightly. At the end however there was little doubting the winner with Tanaka taking the decision with scores of 79-74, 78-75 and 77-76.
Although he struggled slightly slightly over the line Tanaka will have learned so much, and proven so much, with this win as opposed to his previous 3, and will have taken a huge step towards a title fight, which may well come in 2016.
