Earlier today the Ohashi team took part in a major press conference that revealed a number of notable stories in regards to a late December show in Japan. They confirmed a Bantamweight world title bout, suggested a Super Flyweight unification bout, and also revealed that the popular Akira Yaegashi (24-5, 12) [八重樫 東] would be back in the ring!
The announcement was that Yaegashi's injuries have all but healed and that he is eyeing up a potential December return to defend the IBF Light Flyweight title. Interestingly it seems unclear who he would be facing, though the obvious candidate will be the winner of the soon to be announced IBF interim title bout between Milan Melindo (33-2, 12) and Fahlan Sakkreerin Jr (29-4-1, 15) [ศักดิ์กรีรินทร์].
With Yaegashi, WBO Super Flyweight champion Naoya Inoue (11-0, 9) [井上 尚弥] unbeaten Takuma Inoue (8-0, 2) [井上 拓真], and 2012 Olympic medal winner Satoshi Shimizu (1-0, 1) [清水 聡] all linked to the late December show it looks like we could have a huge ending to the year for Japanese boxing, once again.
