According to sources in Thailand we may well see Yodmongkol Vor Saengthep (46-3, 31) [ยอดมงคล ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] in the ring against in July, with the sources reporting that he is one of the possible opponents for WBO Flyweight champion Zou Shiming (9-1, 2) [邹市明], with that bout taking potentially taking place in China.
At the moment Yodmongkol is ranked #2 by both the WBA and the WBO at Flyweight, but with WBO #1 ranked fighter Toshiyuki Igarashi suffering a serious injury last time out there is a chance that the Thai could be the man who takes his place at the top of the WBO rankings, and in effect becomes the mandatory challenger for Shiming.
If Yodmongkol decides the WBA route is preferable, given he has previously held the WBA interim title, he will likely be forced to wait until the end of the year, at the earliest to take on Kazuto Ioka for the title.
It should be noted that Chinese sources are reporting Shiming's likely opponent will be a Japanese fighter, looking at the WBO rankings, and the upcoming schedule, the most likely of those could be Sho Kimura (14-1-2, 7) [木村翔] who would make for an interesting test against Shiming, but isn't the big name the Chinese audiences would have been hoping to face off against.
Saying all that however the WBO rankings are subject to change on a whim, and we could see several new fighters added to the rankings when they are next up dated, giving new options for the Chinese champion.
