According to sources in Japan a deal is in the works for former Japanese and OPBF Super Bantamweight champion Yukinori Oguni (18-1-1, 7) [小國 以載] to fight IBF world champion Jonathan Guzman (22-0-0-1, 22) on New Year's Eve.
At the moment there are very few details about the contest being revealed ,or even rumoured, though it's thought that the bout will be part of a TBS card, along with the next defense of Kazuto Ioka, and will take place at the EDION Arena Osaka. An alternative theory is that Watanabe will hold it as a third title bout on their end of year card, backed by TV Tokyo. Notably though Oguni isn't currently signed up by either Ioka or Watanabe, nor has he got any TV commitments, leaving some of the question marks around his bout. Though it is almost certainly going to serve as a secondary defense whether it's in Tokyo or Osaka.
Although details are few and far between at the moment, and a deal hasn't been announced, it does look like details will emerge in the coming weeks, if not days. If the bout is made it will see Guzman return to Japan for a second successive bout in the country, where he won the title earlier this year with a stoppage victory against Shingo Wake. Incidentally one of Wake's best wins came against Oguni in a bout for the OPBF title.
Interestingly the winner of this will potentially be looking at the winner of the November 19th bout between Ryosuke Iwasa (22-2, 14) [岩佐 亮佑] as possibly their first defense in 2017 Luis Rosa (22-0-0-2, 10).
Edit-Since we first reported this, the bout has been confirmed by Oguni's promoter Kadoebi Houseki.
