On Wednesday Japanese Light Middleweight champion Yuki Nonaka (28-8-3, 9) [野中 悠樹] announced that he would be returning to the ring on April 17th to defend his title, for the 4th time.
The champion will be defending his title against mandatory challenger Yuto Shimizu (11-2-2, 4) [清水 優人], a bout that was announced way back in January as part of the Champions Carnival. Although the bout was announced there was no date set and Nonaka's announcement has finally given us a date for the contest.
Interestingly the bout will take place the EDION Arena Osaka, however it's not clear which show it will be part of with the venue playing host to two shows on the same day. One of those shows will be headlined by Sho Ishida [石田 匠], who is defending the Japanese Super Flyweight title against Ryuichi Funai [船井 龍一] as part of the Champion Carnival, whilst the other will see Ishida's Ioka gym stablemate Masayoshi Nakatani [中谷 正義] defending his OPBF Lightweight title against Tosho Makoto Aoki [闘将 青木 誠].
Although it's currently unclear which of those show's Nonaka will be part of it seems clear that Nonaka Vs Shimizu will take place on one of those two cards as the co-feature.
