Joichiro Tatsuyoshi may have been the biggest name in Japanese boxing for much of the 1990's though yesterday, and today in fact, it was his former rival Yasuei Yakushiji who was stealing the headlines in the Japanese press as the former WBC Bantamweight champion announced plans that he was set to re-marry.
The 46 year old Yakushiji is best known for scoring a very, very narrow win over "Jo" in 1994 to unify the WBC and WBC interim titles at Bantamweight whilst also recording the 3rd defence of his title. He is also known by international fans for his loss to the then unbeaten Wayne McCullough, who claim a split decision against him in July 1995 to claim his first world title.
Yesterday however the fighter, who retired after the loss to McCullough with a record of 24-3-1 (16), announced that he would be marrying a lady 18 years his junior.
This will be Yakushiji's second marriage. His first came to an end in 2012 after 18 years together.
We would like to wish Mr Yakushiji and his soon to be wife all the best in the best and a very happy marriage.
