Between now and the end of the year Japanese fans get 7 world title fights, all on free TV. Of those bouts one stands out as being a potential FOTY candidate and really does have us, along with hardcore fans, rather excited.
That bout is the IBF Light Flyweight world title bout between defending champion Javier Mendoza (24-2-1, 19), who will be defending his title for the second time, and Akira Yaegashi (22-5, 12), who is looking to record a third divisional world title.
On Sunday both men got a chance to see each other at the signing ceremony which saw the two giving quotes to the media. The quotes, from both, seemed very respectful with neither having a nasty word to say about the other man, in fact both were rather complimentary and seemed to suggest that their styles would gel for a thrilling fan friendly battle. The sort of battle that we are all expecting. If we get that then we may well have a late Christmas treat on December 29th.
Yaegashi and Mendoza face off in final FOTY contender!
