Ryota Murata (2-0, 2) is learning more than just basic skills in the US as he's been testing out Reyes gloves for the first time.
Murata, who had previously used Japanese made gloves, was told to wear Reyes gloves for his up coming bout with Carlos Nascimento (29-3, 23) and appears to already like them.
Known as "punchers gloves" Reyes's are generally favoured by big punching fighters. It's little wonder that Nascimento, who has an impressive 71.88% KO rate, wanted to wear them though on the other hand they are more damaging when hit by them and Nascimento likely won't be able to take many shots from Murata with them on.
The reason Reyes gloves are so devastating is because the knuckle area is smaller than on most other gloves. This effectively means the force of a punch is distributed in a more concentrated area hence the damage is more telling.
Interestingly as well as the new gloves Murata has also been testing some custom made shoes provided to him from Under Armour Inc. These new shoes are expected to provide the fighter with better stability, balance and movement.
As well as testing the new clothing Murata has been busy in sparring and went several rounds with former Welterweight prospect Mike Jones.
Although Murata is just weeks away from his fight with Nascimento it seems there is still plenty of work to be done in the Top Rank gym and we'll be hoping to see an improved Murata when it finally gets to "Ring of Gold".
