Earlier today the Japanese media was invited to a press conference, which had been called to officially announce the up coming world title bout between Yuko Kuroki (15-4-1 7) [黒木 優子] and Norj Guro (7-5-1, 4), a bout that we reported on a couple of days ago.
Whilst the announcement of the world title did go ahead it was actually another story from the same press conference that really caught the attention of both the media and Japanese boxing fans.
The particular story was a shock announcement from female fighter Tomomi Takano(8-2, 5) [高野人母美], who revealed that, win or lose, her next bout would be her final one.
The popular Takano will be facing Hye Lim Lee (3-9-2) on June 6th, on the under-card of the Kuroki Vs Guro bout, and made the announcement of her retirement without consulting manager Keiichiro Kanehira, who was incidentally out of the country. Understandably Mr Kanehira seems to shocked by he announcement, and it appears he has suggested that the bout will be cancelled over the next few days. Interestingly Takano has stated that her boxing-boxing intention is to become an actress.
