Earlier today fans in Jakarta got the chance to see some title action with promising Indonesian hopeful Tibo Monabesa (15-0-1, 7) taking on Filipino foe Rene Patilano (15-3-3, 7) in a bout for the vacant WBC International Silver Light Flyweight title.
The bout saw Patilano looking to return to winning ways after a tough 2016, which saw the Filipino go 1-1-1 suffering a stoppage loss to Kosei Tanaka and a technical draw with JC Francisco. The visitor showed his desire to win early in the bout and seemed to be fighting on an even level with Monabesa in the early stages of the contest.
Sadly for Patilano he was putting a lot of effort in to those early rounds and that seemed to take a toll on the visitor who was unable to keep the same speed and energy in the later stages as Monabesa began to time and counter the Filipino with ease.
The work of Monabesa, rightfully, impressed the judges and got him a well deserved decision with scores of 117-111, and 116-112, twice. With the win Monabesa claims the WBC International Silver Light Flyweight title and could well see the youngster being given a boost in the rankings. Sadly for Patilano this is a third successive set back and he'll be running a risk of becoming little more than an "opponent" in the near future.
