Earlier today saw former amateur stand out Kenya Noguchi (1-0) make his professional debut with a solid and impressive 6 round decision victory over the far more experienced and significantly older Hideharu Takahashi (6-10, 2).
Noguchi, who was the runner up in the 2013 inter-scholastic tournament, is either 17 or 18, depending on the source, and is tipped to be the next star from the Celes gym.
Fighting from the southpaw stance Noguchi looked sensational early on with an aggressive mindset that seemed to be be all about stopping Takahashi. In the middle rounds he seemed to realise that Takahashi was a tough, tough foe and decided to rely on his boxing, countering and moving against the more experienced man.
Although it was clear that Noguchi went out with the intention of scoring a knockout he'll have been more than happy to have come home with the 6 round shut victory over Takahashi who has been stopped just once in his 16 fight career.
Although its far, far too early to describe Noguchi as a super prospect, such as Takuma Inoue and Kosei Tanaka, there is certainly some expectation on his shoulders and with a debut victory like this there is little doubt that he has the natural ability to be excited about.
