Sources in Japan have informed us that IBF #1 ranked Super Bantamweight contender Shingo Wake (19-4-2, 11) is set to vacate the OPBF title as he continues to build towards a world title fight, which is now expected to come in 2016 possibly against a unified champion.
At the moment it's unclear what Wake's next move is though we'd not be surprised to see him take part in a stay busy fight, especially given that he has been inactive since winning his IBF world title eliminator back in June against Mike Tawatchai. It'll be interesting to see if that stay busy will be a simple one against a "gimme", just to keep sharp, or will be a testing one against an opponent of some value to help him prepare properly for his world title fight.
At the moment it's unclear who will be fighting for the vacant title, though the OPBF rankings are full of top class fighters and potentially brilliant bouts featuring the likes of Qiu Xiao Jun, Shun Kubo, Albert Pagara, Ye Joon Kim and Yusaku Kuga, any of which could be in the running for a title fight either in December or early next year.
