We've known for a while that IBF #1 ranked Super Bantamweight Shingo Wake (19-4-2, 11) is intent on making the most of his lofty world ranking and pursuing a world title fight with Irishman Carl Frampton (21-0, 14).
Despite Wake's status as the IBF's mandatory world title challenger he has maintained the OPBF title, a title he won back in March 2013. Although Wake has been a fighting champion and defended the title 5 times it does seem like he's set to vacate the title to now focus completely on the IBF world title, at least according to various sources
Whilst keeping the title would leave some interesting match ups, such as defenses against Chinese fighter Qiu Xiao Jun or fast rising Filipino star Albert Pagara, it does seem very clear that Wake has made up his mind and will vacate.
If, or rather when, he vacates it could again lead to some very interesting bouts for the title. It could, for example, lead to Jun fighting Shun Kubo or former world title challenger Kenichi Yamaguchi.
