Last year we saw the popular Shingo Wake (20-5-2, 12) [和氣 慎吾] suffer a painful loss to Dominican slugger Jonathan Guzman in a bout for the IBF Super Bantamweight title. Since then Wake has been away from the ring, allowing injuries to heal and transferring to the FLARE Yamagami gym, from the Koguchi gym.
The talented sharpshooter was at the Korakuen Hall yesterday and spoke about his future as well as his condition and his recent training.
He seemed to suggest that he would be returning to the ring in the summer, with his comeback pencilled in for July. And Prior to his gym transfer he had been training in the Philippines and in the US as he's been looking to improve on his skills ahead of his next out.
Wake also spoke about how exciting his division has become recently in Japan, with the country now boasting two workd champions, Shun Kubo and Yukinori Oguni, as well as the move up in weight by Tomoki Kameda, making the division one of the most interesting in Japan.
