Yesterday we saw Dominican power puncher Jonathan Guzman (21-0-0-1, 21) take part in his public training session ahead of his July 20th clash with Japan's Shingo Wake (20-4-2, 12) [和氣 慎吾]. Today it was the turn of the coiffed Japanese star to take part in a public training session.
Wake, who took part in his session at the Koguchi gym, appeared calm, confident and happy and even seemed to enjoy the fact that Guzman looked excellent in his public practice yesterday, when he was sharp and looking in great condition.
Talking about sharp Wake looked exceptionally sharp today, his punches were lighting quick and the hammered the mitts of his trainer and his shadow boxing looked fast and sharp. The speed, movement and timing from Wake looked incredible and it's clear that that has been his focus, and is his key to over-coming Guzman's much vaunted power. In fact he suggested that Guzman wouldn't be able to hit him due to his speed.
Although confident Wake seems to clearly realise that the bout will be a tough one and doesn't appear to be leaving things to chance. His weight is only a little over the limit, his training camp has been great.
