This Friday we see unbeaten Japanese Middleweight hopeful Ryota Murata (6-0, 4) take a big step up in class as he takes on world ranked Brazilian Douglas Damiao Ataide (13-1-1, 6). The bout is a genuine step up for Murata and it will be the first time he faces a world ranked opponent, it will also be one of the first times where he is facing an opponent who has something to lose and thus will be willing to take his licks and fight back.
Despite the bout being a step up the Japanese fighter is a staggering 1/18 with UK bookies to win the bout. Odds that suggest a mismatch and not a step up. On the other hand Ataide is 9/1 to win the bout and cause an upset.
Whilst we have no doubt that Murata deserves to be the favourite, especially given he's the home star and an Olympic gold medal winner, we do think those odds are ridiculous and that Ataide at 9/1 is really worth a small bet given that Murata didn't look great against American Jessie Nicklow last time out, in fact Murata looked incredibly clumsy in that bout.
