Earlier this year the IBF ordered the teams involved with Ryosuke Iwasa (19-1, 2) and Lee Haskins (31-3, 13) to negotiate with the intention of the two men meeting in an IBF interim Bantamweight title bout. Since then the teams of the two fighters have been working hard on coming to an agreement on venue and date, and it now seems that they've come to a conclusion.
Whilst we've not yet been made aware of when, or where, the bout will take place it's been hinted by both Iwasa in his blog earlier today.
The Japanese fighter, known as "Eagle Eye", stated that the fight would be "announced soon" but asked fans to "wait a little bit longer". It would seem however that the wait is for formalities to be sorted before an official announcement.
A few days prior to Iwasa's blog entry was a tweet by British promoter Mick Hennessy regarding a world title fight being shown on British Free-To-Air TV channel "Channel 5". Hennessy have a working relationship with Haskins and given Iwasa's blog entry it wouldn't be far fetched to assume they were connected.
Whilst there hasn't been too many details leaked it would likely that the fight would be in Europe and will be taking place on a Saturday. This could mean that Iwasa has agreed to fight in the UK or, alternatively, a deal has been reached with South African promotional outfit Golden Gloves to be featured on a show in Monaco. If it's the Monaco option it seems almost certain to fall on June 6th, as part of the "D-Day" card headlined by an All African fight between Tommy Oosthuizen (24-0-2, 14) and Roberto Feliciano Bolont (35-3, 24).
Whilst the suspicion is that the bout will be in Monaco we'll be awaiting the official announcement which will hopefully come soon.
