Over the past few weeks we've heard that Teiken promoted Nicaraguan fighter Roman Gonzalez (41-0, 35) was heading to 115lbs for a stay busy type of fight back home in Nicaragua at some point in February. It now seems that the fight is all sorted according to Nicaraguan website http://www.laprensa.com.ni.
According laprensa the fight will take place on February 28th and will see Gonzalez battle against Mexico's highly experienced Valentin Leon (38-28-3, 21) after talks with Cesar Javier Gandara (23-5-1, 9) broke down over the money Gandara was demanding.
For fans of "Chocolatito" this will be a disappointing match up however the Nicaraguan is said to be taking this bout to begin his campaign at 115lbs en route to a "lower weight super fight" with WBO world champion Naoya Inoue (8-0, 7), which is rumoured to take place at the end of the year if both men can remain undefeated. If that fight can be made then we may well see the best fight that can be made in the lower weights, if not all of boxing.
