Earlier today it was revealed that Filipino fighter Rene Dacquel (17-6-1, 6) would be travelling to Japan, for his 5th bout in the country, in August to face off against world ranked Japanese southpaw Go Onaga (27-2-2, 18), with the winner becoming the OPBF Super Flyweight champion.
For Dacquel, the interim champion, the bout sees him returning to Japan less than a year after his unsuccessful challenger against Takuma Inoue, last December. The Filipino 25 year old did, subsequently, win the interim title by beating Lucky Tor Bumas, AKA Rathaphol Suwaonsoda, in 9 rounds and will be hoping to upgrade that title to the full version when he takes on Onaga.
As for Onaga will be getting his first shot at an OPBF title, though has previously come up short in bouts for the Japanese, and Japanese interim, title. Incidentally he will be looking to become the third Ohashi fighter in recent years to have claimed the OPBF Super Flyweight title, following not only Inoue but also Ryo Matsumoto, both of whom vacated the title to turn their attention elsewhere.
For those interested the bout will be held at the Prefectural Budokan, in Okinawa on August 21st.
Also on this card will be former wold title challenger Jeffrey Galero (14-1, 7), who will be making his Japanese debut as he battles against Seita Ogido (10-2-1, 3).
