This past weekend saw the long await ring return of former Flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (34-2, 24), who returned to the ring for the first time in over a year. In the opposite corner to the talented Mexican was Filipino journeyman Raymond Tabugon (18-6-1, 8).
Sadly for Tabugon he was simply not good enough to really test Estrada with the Mexican being too good, too talented and too smart, claiming a 10 round shut out win.
To his credit the Filipino did refuse to roll over for his well established foe, but all of his success was limited and it seemed like he was always struggling to have any continued success with Estrada being far too good and too smart. Still given his performance Tabugon will have put himself in the shop window for future international bouts and may find himself taken back over to Mexico for other top Mexican fighters looking for someone to give them a bit of a fight.
For Estrada the win allowed him to shake some ring rust and we now expect to see him making moves towards a major Super Flyweight bout, possibly a rematch with Roman Gonzalez or a potential show down with Naoya Inoue, a bout that has been reported in the Japanese press as a possibility. Unfortunately however he may be out of the ring for some time given that he re-injured his right hand in the middle of the fight
