Last week saw Japanese wonder kid Naoya Inoue (5-0, 4), pictured, spar with fellow Japanese fighter Atsushi Kakutani ahead of Inoue's world title bout with Adrian Hernandez (29-2-1, 18). Whilst the session was clearly to keep Inoue on his toes it also had a secondary function, information gathering.
Kakutani fought Hernandez last year and although he lost he did have some success against the Mexican including a first round knockdown.
From what we understand Kakutani believes the the height of Hernandez is wrong. Hernandez is widely listed as being 5'8 though Kakutani seems to believe he's notably shorter than that, though he will still be taller than Inoue. He also shared information regarding the strength and speed of Hernandez, suggesting that whilst Hernandez is a powerful fighter he isn't that fast and can be out sped.
Kakutani said that he expects Inoue to win if the Japanese "Monster" can use his movement well and get in and out taking advantage of Hernandez's somewhat slow feet. Whilst we wouldn't have expected Kakutani to favour Hernandez it's still some interesting information for Inoue ahead of the fight on April 6th.
