Late on Saturday the boxing world turned it's attention to the US as former Welterweight king Danny Garcia faced off against multi-time world champion Robert Guerrero, with the two men facing off at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Also on that card, albeit in an untelevised fight, was former OPBF Light Welterweight champion Min Wook Kim (14-1, 11) [김민욱] who recorded his second successive win in the US.
Kim, fighting in a walk out bout, made light work of the over-matched Erick Daniel Martinez (11-4-1, 5), who was stopped from a body shot in the 5th round of a scheduled 8 round bout.
Prior to the stoppage Martinez had been deducted a point, in round 3, for spitting out his mouth piece.
For the Mexican this was a 4th straight loss, and sees his record continue to crumble after an 11-0-1 start to his professional career. For Kim however the win continued his winning streak, which now stands at 14 straight wins 4 straight stoppages, 3 of which have come in the last year. Incidentally the last man to go the distance with Kim, Shinya Iwabuchi [岩渕 真也] will be fighting for Kim's old title in February whilst Kim continues to make a name for himself with the hardcore fans in the West.
