Earlier today we reported that the weigh in between Satoshi Hosono (32-2-1, 21) [細野 悟] and Jonathan Victor Barros (40-4-1, 22) was attended by current IBF Featherweight champion Lee Selby (23-1, 8), who will be mandated to face the winner in his next mandatory title defense.
Selby didn't just attend the weigh in as a fan but also to talk to the media and build up a potential fight with Hosono, if Hosono can of course over-come Barros on Monday.
The cheeky Welshman seemed to suggest that he was happy to return to Japan to face Hosono, of course if Hosono wins, and was wanting to fight the winner before the end of the year. Not only was he happy to fight in Japan but he clearly suggested that he was happy to feature on one of the end of year cards, mentioning celebrating New Year in Japan, as long as he got paid well.
Whilst it was clear he was being a little bit mischievous in the build up to the fight, he does appear to have had a good time in Japan and it does seem like he was being genuine about fighting in Japan at the end of the year, and facing his mandatory out of the way in the process.
Although it would, in theory, give Hosono about 12 weeks to prepare for Selby, again is Hosono wins, it would be an interesting addition to a late December card.
Sadly for Selby it would seem more likely to come on Ohashi card, pencilled in for December 30th, than a New Year's Eve card but it's certainly something that Selby, his manager Chris Sanigar, Hosono and Ohashi will be looking into, if "Bazooka" wins tomorrow. With some in Japan already suggesting that a deal is agreed in principle for the Hosono Vs Selby to be part of of a card headed by Naoya Inoue's next title defense and that his visit to Japan has been to finalise that deal, if Hosono wins.
