On august 31st we get the chance to see a highly anticipated WBA Super Flyweight title bout between defending champion Kohei Kono (32-8-1, 13) [河野 公平] and exciting challenger Luis Concepcion (34-4, 24). The bout is a genuinely brilliant match up and is one of those that has really got foaming at the mouth in anticipation of an all-out slug fest between two men who are really fun to watch.
On paper the bout is one of the most exciting this year and the bookies also see it as one of the most even fights this year, though they have made Panamanian visitor Concepcion the slight favourite, pricing him at 8/11 to win the bout.
Many stated suggested that Concepcion has look a rejuvenated fighter in recent times and his recent wins over David Sanchez and Hernan Marquez have likely contributed to the belief that he'll come out on top.
Kono, the under-dog, is priced at 11/10 to retain his title and record a 4th successive defense of the title. If he can come through this then he's expected to face Rex Tso in a big money spinner at the end of the year, and in the eyes of some that possible pay day is a major driving force for the champion who has long chased a fight with the Hong Kong "Wonder Boy".
