According to sources in Nicaragua a deal has been reached for the WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (32-8-1, 13) [河野 公平] to face "interim" champion Luis Concepcion (34-4, 24) on August 31st ending weeks of speculation.
The bout was confirmed by Concepcion's manager, Rogelio Espiño.
The two camps had been ordered to negotiate back in late May, with purse bids looming, but the deal being reached has seen the parties avoiding the purse bids for the bout.
For people wondering the bout will take place in Tokyo, at the Ota Ward Gymnasium and is the first of a speculated 3 world title bouts set to take place on the card, and is potentially the most exciting given the styles of the two men.
We're expecting Watanabe gym to officially announce the bout in the near future, and will likely also confirm a WBA Light Flyweight bout between Ryoichi Taguchi (24-2-1, 11) [田口良一] and Ryo Miyazaki (24-1-3, 15) [宮崎 亮] in the very near future.
