On Wednesday Japanese media in Tokyo had the opportunity to see WBA Super Flyweight champion Kohei Kono (31-8-1, 13) [河野 公平] take part in a public work out ahead of his upcoming world title defense against Thailand's Inthanon Sithchamuang (28-7-1, 15) [อินทนนท์ ศิษย์ชะมวง].
The Japanese "Tough Boy" spoke of what he had seen of Inthanon and although their was some respect from Kono it does seem like he is highly confident of not only winning but stopping the Thai. In fact he's predicted a stoppage in the second half of the fight.
Whilst he was confident he was also relaxed and it seems that he is very comfortable at Super Flyweight. He's not yet at his fighting weight, but he's only around 2KG's above it and is expecting to drop that weight very easily over the coming days.
If Kono does defend his title there are a lot of fighters said to be interested in facing him, including Rex Tso, Luis Concepcion and Kal Yafai. It could well be that we see a small bidding war to lure Kono in to the ring, if he can over-come Inthanon as is widely expected.
