Earlier today Japan's Kohei Kono (30-8-1, 13) set off for the US to take part in a short training camp ahead of his planned WBA Super Flyweight world title defense against mandatory challenger Koki Kameda (33-1, 18).
The training camp, which was announced last week, will see Kono in the US for around a week. It seems much of the focus is on adapting to the general conditions of the US, which of course includes a huge change in time zone.
The champion will return to Japan around May 20th where he will continue to work on his preparations for the bout with Kameda which is now expected in June or August, with the venue certainly being in the US.
This fight is set to be an historic one in a lot of ways though notable it will be the first All Japanese world title fight to be fought on US soil. It will also be the first time in history that a Japanese fighter, in this case Kameda, attempts to become a 4-weight world champion.
Kohei Kono Vs Koki Kameda WILL take place in the US likely in July or August
