This coming Saturday fight fans in Japan will see Juan Hernandez Navarrete (34-2, 25) defending his WBC Flyweight title against exciting Japanese youngster Daigo Higa (12-0, 12) [比嘉 大吾]. Ahead of that bout Hernandez took part in a public training session, or rather he turned up for such an event.
On Tuesday Hernandez was supposed to give the press a chance to see him in action but sadly the Mexican spent just 15 minutes actually working out, doing very little before curtailing the work out, much to the chargrin of Yoko Gushiken.
The Mexican was said to have saided confident before entering the ring for his work out, but there had been questions about the Mexican struggling with hs weight, and he was apparently 2KG's over the limit on Tuesday, with talk about a spy in his camp revealing such details.
He was asked about his loss to Kazuto Ioka, several years ago in Japan in a WBC Minimumweight title bout, and seemed to suggest that he had used that loss as a major learning experience. He's spoken about becoming a much better fighter with his mental, physical and technical abilities all improving since that defeat.
Despite the supposed improvement, his lack of actual work out time did seem to seriously annoy some, not just Gushiken, and it does sound like he really could have messed up during his training camp.
Higa risks unbeaten record against WBC champion Hernandez!
