On Thursday evening at a press conference in Mexico rivals Jonathan Taconing (20-2-1, 17) and Roman Garcia Hirales (20-5-1, 12) went eye to eye and made it clear they would both be seeking a knockout this coming Saturday in their very exciting looking fight.
For Taconing this is a huge opportunity to make a statement as he hunts an 8th straight stoppage win. Although relatively unknown outside of the Philippines the heavy handed fighter is a terror in the ring with vicious power, a southpaw stance, a genuine toughness and a gunslinger attitude in the ring. Although he was beaten in his most notable bout to date, a controversial technical loss to Kompayak Porpramook, he has shown a real mean streak since taking out 7 foes in a combined 30 rounds.
Garcia is also a world class fighter and is looking to get straight back into the mix following a very exciting loss late last year to compatriot is Javier Mendoza in an IBF world title fight. In the past we've seen Garcia hold the WBO Light Flkyweight title, though it was a title he lost in 2011 to current champion Donnie Nietes.
Notably Garcia has faced a number of Filipino's in the past. Although that has seen him being beaten by Nietes he does holds a notable, albeit controversial, win over the then unbeaten Johnriel Casimero. He also owns a win over Lionel Mark Duran.
