Earlier today saw a major press conference being held in Japan to announce a mouth watering, though long rumoured, world title triple header. The announcement confirmed rumours that had been doing the rounds for a while, have made for one of the most attractive cards of the year so far.
The main event of the card will be the very long rumoured WBA Middleweight title bout between Ryota Murata (12-0, 9) [村田 諒太] and Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam (35-2, 21). The rumour for this one had been swirling for a while and from what we understand was all be ready to be announced more than a week ago. The bout could see Japan crown it's second Middleweight world champion or it could see N'Dam N'Jikam scored a career defining win.
One of the supporting world title bouts will see WBC Light Flyweight champion Ganigan Lopez (28-6, 17) battle with unbeaten Japanese hopeful Ken Shiro (9-0, 5) [拳 四朗] in what is a huge step up in class for Ken Shiro and a second title defense for Lopez, who won the title in Japan last year. A win for Ken Shiro could see Japan having all 4 Light Flyweight world titles and setting up potentially huge domestic unification bouts!
The other supporting world title bout will see the destructive Daigo Higa (12-0, 12) [比嘉 大吾] battle against the newly crowned champion WBC Flyweight champion Juan Hernandez Navarrete (34-2, 25), in what will be a mandatory defence from the Mexican world champion. The bout's winner will have to face a mandatory title defense against either Muhammad Waseem (5-0, 3) or Oscar Cantu (14-1, 1).
The show will take place on May 20th at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo and is expected to be shown live on Fuji TV, with all 3 bouts likely to be aired, though that hasn't yet been confirmed.
