Back in February we reported that our Thai friends had informed us that a deal had been made for WBA Flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka (21-1, 13) [井岡一翔] to defend his title against Thailand's Noknoi Sitthiprasert (62-4, 38) [นกน้อย ซีพีเฟรชมาร์ท] on April 23rd. Today that bout was officially announced with the Ioka team holding a press conference to announce it, and confirming all the details we were given in February
The bout, which will be Ioka's 5th defense of the title, will see him returning to the EDION Arena Osaka having had his last defence at the Shimazu Arena, in Kyoto, back on New Year's Eve. It will also see him facing a Thai in a world title bout for the 7th time, with the Japanese fighter currently holding a 5-1 record against Thai's.
For Noknoi, who was actually in action earlier this month, the bout sees him getting his first world title bout and he will be defending an incredible 61 fight winning run, dating back to a 1-4 start. Impressively it's about 12 years since he last lost, though it must be said that his competition has been terrible.
As previously alluded to the bout will act as the headline bout of a card that will also feature a WBO Bantamweight title bout betweenm defending champion Marlon Tapales (29-2, 12) and Japan's once beaten Shohei Omori (18-1, 13) [大森 将平], with Tapales seeking his first defense and Omori looking to avenge his sole defeat.
Although not yet confirmed it would seem likely that both of these bouts will be aired on TBS in Kanto region and MBS in the Kansai region, where both fighters are from and will kick off what is likely to be a busy 2 weeks for Japanese fight fans.
